Open Farm Sunday 2011

biscuit making Open Farm Sunday

Did you visit a farm last Sunday as part of Open Farm Sunday?

Despite the rain, thousands of people throughout the country visited a farm to discover how their food is produced.

We helped James Hawkes at Gate Farm, Great Leighs on his Open Farm. An enormous amount of work had gone into the event with guided tractor and trailer rides, sheep and cattle to look at, a wildlife laboratory, Crop Establishment Trail and tours of the grain store. There were lots of activities for children, including a big heap of wheat to play in, ride on toy tractors, a nest building competition and biscuit baking with Jayne from Humble Cooking.

We milled flour from wheat, which we then used to make soda bread and made bread using different types of wheat to see the difference.

If you visited a farm and took some photos, why not enter the photography competition?
